Video: Cleveland bus driver uppercuts female passenger and gets suspended

By Craig Bison

Artis Hughes, a bus driver for the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) in Cleveland, Ohio for 22 years, was suspended after video of him assaulting a female passenger by hitting her with an uppercut punch and than throwing her off the bus was circulating around the internet.

The altercation took place on September 18, it apparently started because 25-year old Shidea N. Lane was harassing the bus driver and getting into a verbal assault with him, the first physical contact in the video seems to be initiated by Lane as she went up to Hughes and hit him, Hughes responded by saying “You’re going to jail now” and got out of his seat and unleashed a clean uppercut that landed flush on Lane’s jaw sending her back, after Hughes landed the punch he tosses Lane out and throws her stuff out with her, Lane comes back on the bus and attacks Hughes, and they continue to scuffle.

At the end of the video a passenger yells out “That’s a F-ing female,”

“I don’t care,” the Hughes responded. “She wants to be a man, I’m going to treat you like a man.”

When police showed up to the scene, Hughes and Lane declined to press charges or file a report, so the incident was forgotten until video of the situation was posted online recently.
