The 25 most dangerous U.S. neighborhoods of 2010

By Opa Adams

In their second annual list of the United States most dangerous neighborhoods, WalletPop, took data compiled by Dr. Andrew Schiller’s team of experts at NeighborhoodScout.com, and combined with FBI stats and date from all 17,000 local law enforcement agencies they revealed a list of the top 25 most dangerous neighborhoods in America with the highest possible rate of violent crimes in that area.

The reason they didn’t do cities and narrowed it down to neighborhoods is because cities with high crime rates can also have neighborhoods that are safe, and it makes it difficult to generalize an entire city because of the mix of dangerous and safe areas in an entire city.

This years most dangerous and violent neighborhood is the Chicago, Illinois, neighborhood of W. Lake St, zip code 60612. The prediction for annual violent crimes for this area is: 297. The violent crime rate (per 1,000 persons) is : 257.72. Your chances of becoming a victim in this area if you stay for one year is: 1 in 4.
